About Kosi River Jim Corbett
The Kosi is a perennial river that originates from Dharpani Dhar, perched at an altitude of 2,500 meters in the Baramandal region of Almora district. This pristine river flows gracefully through the green valleys and towns of Ramnagar, Uttarakhand, before entering the Tarai regions of Uttar Pradesh, where it flows into the Ramganga River.
This Himalayan river is known by the name “Kosila” among the locals. The 168 meter long Kosi River replenishes Kumaon’s agricultural land and is a source of water for the wildlife thriving in Corbett National Park.
The eastern edge of Corbett National Park is entirely fed by the Kosi River, which flows from Mohaan to Ramnagar via Dhikuli. While the river does not flow into the park, wild animals use the river’s water to quench their thirst, especially during the nipping seasons. The bed of the Kosi River is filled with boulders and its flow is erratic and often changes direction. The river is by nature unpredictable and notorious. It often brings torrential rains and causes destruction during the monsoon season. Some of the nearby places to Kosi River are Bujan, Betal Ghat, Corbett National Park, Garjiya Devi Temple, Amdana, Ramnagar etc.
Fishing on the Kosi River
The Kosi River is home to Mahseer (various species of fish found in the Ramganga River) which attract many migratory birds that come here for prey. The water in the river is pristine; you can sit here with your feet soaked in the water or enjoy fishing. You can also bask by the banks of the river, hear the gurgling music of its flow and release the writer within to write a few lines while you surrender to the breathtaking scenery around you.
White water rafting in Kos
The Kosi River offers ample opportunities for adventure lovers to experience white water rafting in Kosi, which is only possible during the monsoon season. Adrenaline-filled 30-minute rafting will make you conquer rapids II. or III. classes.
Location of the Kosi River
The Kosi River originates from Almora District in Uttarakhand and covers a large area of Cobett National Park and Ramnagar District in Nainital before it exits from Uttarakhand.
